Workout of the WEEK!

Hey Kids,

We are going to get posts up and cranking again for 2012 with a weekly installment of workouts of the week!

Todays workout is a body weight workout:

Start with a sound warm up:

Workout:

Set a timer for 15 minutes do as many rounds as possible (AMRAP) in 15 minutes of:

Prisoner Squats x 10

Push Ups x 10

Bulgarian Split Squats x 10 each

Inverted Rows x 10

Your Final Step!

Any fitness/ nutrition program based on “will power” is BULLSHIT!

So many “trainers” will say “you gotta be tough”, “where is your will power”, “You are Lazy/ Weak”…..

These people are MORONS!

They obviously don’t understand what it is like to battle with a weight problem. A weight problem isn’t caused by weakness or laziness.

It is caused by:

*Stress
*Lack of Control in ones life
*A love affair with food
*Backwards reward systems
and many more

Over eating is a direct result of emotional issues… period!

So Step #5 in our Holiday Survival Guide is to Change YOUR behaviors!

*Change your environment! Rid your life of negative influences, self-sabotage, and a kitchen full of things you shouldn’t have!
-remember if there is bad food in the house, sooner or later you will eat it!

*Make sure to schedule your workouts like appointments (great tip from my friends over at Precision Nutrition!)

*Find a buddy with similar goals for support!

*Stick with it! Focus on the journey, not immediate results. You must be patient, and continue to work hard!

The fact of the matter is that most people are unaware of the things they are NOT doing to ensure success! The small minute details are what makes or breaks you!

To get through the Holidays without packing on unwanted body fat, you must have a plan and pay attention!

Here are some easy to follow tips/ tricks that are guaranteed to help you fight your way through the Holiday Season!

*Keep a food journal! You can’t hide from it if you write it down

*Set S.M.A.R.T Goals- Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, Time Oriented.

*Join a Program w/ Accountability & Social Support (Next Level!!!!!!)

*Take pride in making sure you are not an average American!

*Measure Your food and keep track of your macro-nutrients (Carbohydrate, Protein, Fat)

I know you can do it, stay motivated and DISCIPLINED!

Finally I get to talk about something I love more than fitness……. SLEEPING!!!!

I looooove me some sleeping. Nothing feels better than waking up feeling refreshed and energized!

Hopefully this isn’t you at work!!!

Most Americans do NOT get the proper amount of sleep! They love to make every excuse in the world why, but the majority stay up late watching television or on the damn computer. Remember, the computer should only be used to read my facebook posts and blogs at stevethefitnessguy.com….. that is all!

Sleep is just as important, if not more important than your training program! Without the proper recovery time (sleep), the body will not build it’s self back up properly. Therefore you are basically training for nothing….. Sucks I know!

So step #3 of the Next Level Holiday Survival Guide is: GET YOUR Zzzzzz’s!

*The more quality, sober sleep you get the LEANER you will be!
*Sleep effects the hormone balances in the human body, and thus effects all processes that take place in the body!
*Lack of sleep has been associated with increase in body fat, decreased energy levels, and a whole other gang of bad stuff…….

So shoot for 7-8 hours of quality sleep every night to make the most out of those SIX hours of exercise per week!!!

Focal Points for your workouts:

*Make EVERY session count!

*Increase the Intensity

*Think total body movements rather than old school body building body part splits

*The anatomy of a perfect workout week would look something like this:
M,W,F- Strength Training Days
T,TH- Metabolic Conditioning Days
Sat- Moderate Cardio (swimming, hiking, biking, etc.)
Sun- OFF/ Recovery-Mobility Day

Don’t make excuses!
Don’t wait til the New Year!

The #1 complaint or excuse we see for not eating properly is lack of time…..

The average American is always in a rush. Therefore when we do sit down to eat, it turns into a “race”. The faster you eat the fatter you will be. Plus eating to fast has proven to cause digestive problems. The human body doesn’t realize it’s full until it is too late….. thus over eating and fat gain!

So… Our first step is to slow you down! Enjoy your meals. Try to make your meals last at least 15-20 minutes in duration. Chew each bite of food at least 20-30 times.

I guarantee you will enjoy food so much more when you actually get to taste it!!!

Quality over Quantity!

 Quality over Quantity!

Are you under the assumption that more is always better?

It seems lately gyms are popping up left and right. You would think given the obesity epidemic that should be a good thing?

Unfortunately not so much.......

All these "new" gyms or "studios" have 1 thing in common

1) They don't give a flying "F" if you actually get results!

If you pay attention to most fitness marketing, its a highlight of the hundreds of "classes" they offer, or the equipment they have, or the big name company they are affiliated with.

hmmmm......

Pay attention next time you hear an advertisement for these places. They will claim to be the "Jack of All Trades".

"We have hundreds of classes run by "experts" blah blah blah... I would like to see these "experts" credentials please.

The scary truth is that anyone can become the kind of group fitness instructor the majority of these gyms have with a 1 day certification online! They have zero background in the things that you NEED to have to be an expert- Exercise Physiology, Anatomy and Physiology, kinesiology, etc. etc. etc.

If you don't believe me ask your self proclaimed "expert" about their "experience".

We have more fitness studios, facilities, gyms now than ever before in history. We have more obesity now than ever before, and its rising at alarming rates.

Now that my rant is over, the question is... wouldn't you rather join a program that has two or three things they are THE BEST at -OR- a place that claims to have a hundred different things going on? Remember, Jack of all trades- Master of NONE!

Fat Loss is Science
Athlete Performance is Science
Putting on Functional Lean HEALTHY Lean Mass is Science

All of these things require laser focused science based programming. Period.

So please don't be fooled by all this bullshit advertising from bullshit facilities who get bullshit results!

 Quality over Quantity!

Personally I’m disgusted that other countries laugh at how fat and lazy we are in the U.S. That our obesity rate will be 50% by 2020. That our child hood obesity rate is off the charts.

 Quality over Quantity!

Obviously we must take responsibility for own health and fitness.

But….

The misinformation in this industry is alarming and grotesque. The sheer and utter lack of effort and transparency from these other “fitness” facilities is disgusting.

Why do you think they don’t offer guaranteed results or your money back? Because these A-Holes wouldn’t make a dime!

Let’s stop fooling ourselves and take control of our health and fitness! If you want legit measurable results then stop down to
